Practice Pharmacists
Pharmacists
We are fortunate to have, as part of our clinical team, practice pharmacists. You may be offered an appointment with a pharmacist; this page is intended to explain their role and skills.
All pharmacists complete a 4 year master’s degree in Pharmacy and then must complete their pre-registration year to become a fully qualified pharmacists registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPHC). Pharmacists have been in working in GP surgeries for over a decade and this practice is becoming far more common.
Due to pharmacist’s specialist training in medicines, they are especially well-placed to assist the surgery in:
- Medication reviews
- Prescription queries
- Treating long-term conditions
- Sign repeat prescriptions
- Process clinic and hospital letters
- Provide health promotion and disease prevention advice
Some pharmacists that have completed an additional prescribing qualification are able to prescribe medication themselves allowing quicker access to medication for patients.
If you wish to book a pharmacist appointment to discuss your medication, please contact the surgery.
