Dear Patient,

Adelaide Medical Centre has started piloting an online consultation platform called PATCHS.

By the 1st of October, our PCN ( Primary Care Network) needs to decide on one platform to use.

It is a brief period to pilot it on a broader scale; thus, we will first set limited numbers of admin and, later on, clinical queries to come through. You can still use our generic email to communicate with us as usual.

If you use the new platform and have feedback, please share it with us. Please be reminded that this way of working is new to us, and we know it may present some unique challenges. However, we are confident that it has many benefits for our patients and us.

Thank you in advance for your collaboration and patience.

Vaccination strategy for ongoing polio incident

Following the discovery of a type of vaccine-derived poliovirus in sewage in North and East London, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has advised that a targeted inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) booster dose should be offered to all children between the ages of 1 and 9 in all London boroughs.

This will ensure that these patient groups have a higher level of protection than they would have already from their childhood immunisations.

This initiative is to reduce the spread of polio and to prevent some of the serious complications that could arise from the infection.

Nationally the overall risk of polio and its complications is considered low because most people are protected from this by vaccination; however, booster doses are required to provide additional protection.

Parents of children who are overdue their immunisations, and children eligible for booster or catch-up doses, will be contacted in due course to come in for an appointment. We would encourage parents to take up this offer as soon as possible.

We are waiting on more information on how children will be invited, and how this process will operate, including how appointments will be booked.

The programme will start with the areas affected, where the poliovirus has been detected and vaccination rates are low. This will be followed by rapid rollout across all boroughs.

There are no further details at this stage. Please be reassured that parents will be contacted in due course.
